A job that is also an amanah

HCI has open roles across Canada. If you want work where the outcome is somebody else's clean water, school place or winter shelter, start here.

Working at HCI

Small team. Consequential work.

We are not a large organization. That has two consequences, and you should weigh both.

The first is that your work is visible. There is no layer of people between what you do and whether it worked; a fundraising officer in Edmonton can trace a campaign to a specific well, and does. The second is that you will wear more than one hat, especially in an emergency, and the pace is set by events rather than by a quarterly plan.

If that trade sounds right, the roles below are open. If it does not, we would rather you knew now.

  • 1 Open roles across Canada right now
  • 46 Years operating as a registered Canadian charity
  • Nothing matching your background? We keep speculative applications on file and review them when a role opens.

What we offer

Eight things we actually mean

  • Work-life balance

Flexible hours and hybrid working where the role allows. Emergencies are the exception — when one hits, everyone leans in, and we make up the time afterwards.

  • Growth opportunities

A small organization means fewer rungs but faster climbs. People here move into bigger roles because the room genuinely exists.

  • Competitive compensation

Benchmarked against the Canadian non-profit sector and reviewed annually. Salary bands are discussed at first interview, not at offer stage.

  • Inclusive environment

Our team reflects the communities we serve and the country we are based in. Prayer space and accommodation for religious observance are a given, not a request.

  • Comprehensive benefits

Health, dental and vision coverage for you and your dependants, effective from your start date.

  • Collaborative culture

Programs, fundraising and finance sit in the same conversations. Nobody here finds out about a campaign after it launches.

  • Recognition and rewards

Good work is named publicly, in team meetings and in the annual report — not filed quietly into a performance review.

  • Employee well-being

Humanitarian work carries a weight. Access to counselling support and real encouragement to take your leave, particularly after a difficult response.

What happens next

Four steps, and no silence

Every applicant hears back either way. Being ghosted by a charity is a poor advertisement for its values.

  1. 1. Apply

CV and a short note on why this role, not a covering letter template.

  2. 2. A short call

A 20-minute call to cover the role, the salary band and your questions.

  3. 3. Interview

An interview with the hiring manager and one colleague you would work beside.

  4. 4. Offer

References, then a written offer. Typically two to three weeks end to end.
