You are entitled to check all of it
Charity is an amanah — a trust. You handed us something that was yours, on the understanding it would reach someone who needed it more. The only honest response to that is to show our working.
So we publish the audited numbers, not a designed summary of them. We publish the programme reports whether the year went well or badly. And we publish the strategy, so you can judge us against what we said we would do rather than what we later wish we had said.

How a report gets written here
Reporting is not a marketing exercise done at year end. It is the last step of every project, and it starts before the money leaves Canada.

Set the measure first
Before a project is funded, we agree with the partner what success looks like and how it will be counted.

Record at the point of delivery
Distributions, beneficiaries and costs are logged where they happen, not reconstructed afterwards.

Verify independently
Field monitoring checks the records against reality, and an external auditor checks the financials.

Publish, good year or bad
The report goes up whether it flatters us or not. A number you only see when it is impressive is not a number.
Questions about the numbers
The things donors ask us most
How much of my donation reaches the field?
The split between programme, fundraising and administration costs is stated in each year's audited financial statement — that document is the authority, not a headline percentage. Download the most recent statement above and the figure is in the statement of operations.
Who audits HCI?
An independent external auditor prepares our annual financial statements, which are filed with the Canada Revenue Agency and published here in full. HCI is registered charity No. 107497125 RR 0001.
Can I direct my donation to a specific country or project?
Yes — every campaign on this site is a designated fund, and Zakat is held and disbursed separately in line with our Zakat policy. Where a designated appeal is oversubscribed, surplus funds are moved to the nearest comparable need and that is disclosed in the relevant report.
Where can I find my tax receipt?
Receipts are issued to the email address used at the time of donation, and annual consolidated receipts go out in the new year. If one has not arrived, contact donor care with the approximate date and amount and we will reissue it.
An older report is not listed here. Can I still get it?
This page holds everything currently published. For an earlier year, ask us directly — historical statements filed with the CRA are also publicly searchable on the CRA charities listing.
